Mytho
show from Sept 8 2022Carpenters Workshop Gallery proudly presents Mytho, Eric Schmitt’s debut solo exhibition with the gallery. This new collection centres on the artist’s ‘mythomaniac’ heart, fuelled by his fascination for archaeology and ancient civilisations. Schmitt draws influence from a cultural melting pot of overlapping bibli- cal, classical and mythological traditions, pitting preconceptions of antiquity against each other. Qualities that at first seem rudimentary are repositioned as refined; Lost symbols appear suddenly familiar. The artist intentionally disorientates the viewer, creating objects that defy easy categorisation of how or when they were made. A search for simplicity motivates Schmitt. Despite the technological ca- pabilities at his disposal, he is drawn to the formal purity of prehistoric artworks, ob- jects shaped with basic tools. Avoiding contamination with art historical concepts or precedents, Schmitt removes complexity from his work. The artist describes his artworks as silent, which denotes their calming presence and understated serenity, but also gives a sense of each artwork existing beyond language. Lava, alabaster, bronze; the materials Schmitt uses in Mytho inherently allude to a timeline of material development throughout history. Boldly coloured patinas give the bronze an aesthetic of impossibly well preserved ceramics, as Schmitt superimposes the modern over the ancient. Carved and coloured lava table tops is a technically difficult achievement, yet the result appears natural. This is the balance that Schmitt strikes in all his work, enabling an artistic practice that draws from the past while pushing forward at the cutting edge of design.54 rue de la Verrerie Paris 75004 France

IN & OUT
April 28, 2022"In & Out" is the name of Eric Schmitt’s last exhibition for Pucci. Pieces, in bronze or aluminum foundry, in stone, ceramic or “Plaster Glass” . The “Plaster Glass” pieces are produced by the Pucci workshop. The latter are worked exactly as if they were bronze with a range of colors that resemble patinas, because for this collection there is no hierarchy between one process and another. Pieces whose name begins with Out can be used outdoors.

Eric Schmitt - A new Chapter
From April 18, 2019 to April 25, 2019A new « Chapter » It is a fortified stone built farm that on the front side overlooks the Fontainebleau forest with a breathtaking 360 degree view and on the back side stands at the end of a plateau of undulating fields with its immense square courtyard dominated by an impressive tithe barn next to a dovecote and a 14 th century well.
Eric Schmitt and his wife Sandra Babeanu set their sights on this “Chapitre” once belonging to the clergy of “ Notre Dame de Paris”. The place was big enough to accommodate their workshop, but also their horses, donkeys, dogs, cats, and various native birds, as well as their home.
In order to focus on this ambitious project were everything must be thoroughly rethought they sold their houses and their old workshop which had become too small. To feel free to recreate a new universe at the scale and the spirit of the place they decided to put on sale their furniture and objects designed by Eric Schmitt covering his urban barbarian period from the 80’s, his work in the 90’S with the Neotu gallery, and also his long time collaboration with Christian Liaigre up to his latest creations.
But this sale also introduces unique or singular pieces designed for his interior like the small desk made for his wife or this «radassière» , a very deep couch or sofa bed as one prefers. You can also find the prototypes of some pieces that have become iconic nowadays There are also works, objects, vintage pieces that make up the family and friendly world of Eric Schmitt.
We must confess that they would not have considered parting from these pieces designed or chosen with love without this New Chapters challenge.Piasa 118 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré | 75008 Paris

Direct object complement
From November 10, 2018 to January 12, 2019Together, Eric Schmitt the designer best known for his sculptural objects and the artist Philippe Gronon recognized for his photographic work have imagined a dialogue between a selection of their pieces.
The Galerie Dutko in Ile Saint-Louis invites you to discover from November 10th to January 12th this singular exchange.
The elaborated and stripped down objects, that are the creations of Eric Schmitt, and those, commonplace and in two dimensions, photographed head-on by Philippe Gronon, find here a surprising plastic collusion, an unexpected complicity.
These relationships are organised simultaneously from a formal, material and metaphoric viewpoint.
The lithographic stones emphasise the Bob lamp cut from a block of alabaster. This, with its enigmatic halo, lights up the photos, underscoring their strange similarities. Before three versos of Picasso sewn with thread bearing mysterious motifs, the Sixtine console table piercing through a stone tray, with it six spidery legs, faces them. The Saturn table in bronze and nickel, with its sturdy roundness, takes centre stage at the foot of a Viking engine from the Ariane IV space rocket, which, like an exploded pupil, sends it the look of one who has already left the stage. The singularity of the photographic works of Philippe Gronon and their pictoriality mirror conversely and differently the imaginative and structured works of Eric Schmitt. Each one thus becomes the direct and complementary object of the other.Dutko gallery 4 rue de Bretonvilliers 75004 Paris
